Start the New Year right with a clean house. Wow, that would be nice. If you could just wave the proverbially magic wand and make everything neat, tidy, and dust-free. Let’s get real and try it one room at a time: The “Speed Cleaning” way.

We will begin in the kitchen.

•    Put on your apron. You will need your all-purpose cleaner, two microfiber towel, and a sponge.

•    Fill one side of your sink  ( or a bucket) with hot soapy water. Open your empty dishwasher. Set your kitchen timer for 10 minutes.

•    Now,  begin to the right of your kitchen sink. You will be working roughly in one 3 foot area at a time.

•    Place dirty dishes in the dishwasher. If this is not an option, stack all dirty dishes on the other side of your empty sink. We wash these last.

•    Clear off the countertop. That means return items like small appliances, utensils, and pantry goods to their proper home.

•    Throw away your trash.

•    With one microfiber towel, soak it in the warm soapy water, wring out the excess, and wipe down the outside of the kitchen cabinets (top and bottom).

•    With the second microfiber towel, give the cabinets a quick dry.

•    Polish the knobs.

•    Wipe down any sticky/greasy/gross small appliances like the toaster or can opener. Dry.

•    Spray a bit of your all-purpose cleaner on the countertop to clean and disinfect.

•    Move to the right to the next 3 ft area.

•    Do not stop cleaning until the timer goes off.

•    Step back.

If you want to keep going, great! Set the time again for 10 minutes. If not, give yourself a small reward like a cold drink or step outside for a few minutes. But then get back to it.

Move completely around your kitchen until you end back at the sink.

Start your dishwasher. If you have to hand wash your dishes, breath deeply and get into your Zen. Moving your hands in warm soapy water can be very relaxing.

You totally got this. Just break up the big job into small ones and tackle it.

If you really want to get organized, note which day of the week you cleaned your kitchen. Tuesday? Great. Tuesday is now kitchen day. How long did it take? 30 minutes? Terrific. Next Tuesday you will know that it will only take 30 minutes to clean your kitchen top to bottom.
